This project was a collaboration between the City of Capitola and the Soquel Union Elementary School District. Each tile was painted by a student in the Expanded Learning Program at Soquel Elementary School, Main Street School, Santa Cruz Gardens, and New Brighton Middle School. Seventy-five students contributed to the project, from Transitional Kindergarten through 8th grade, in 2024.
Begonia Commemorative Art
Completed in 2025 by artist Geoffrey Nelson, this new public art piece at Soquel Creek Park celebrates Capitola’s legacy of begonia fields and the iconic floating Begonia Parade, which ended in 2017.
"Sea Level"
This is located in the lower public parking lot on Monterey Ave features a 100-year-old stump approximately 7 feet in diameter and 4 feet deep that arrived there after a mudslide caused by heavy rains in 2019. It has since become a small landmark and piece of Capitola’s history, with the project completed in 2023 by Anthony May.
