Public Art

The Public Art Programs establishes a Public Art Fund to enrich the city’s cultural and aesthetic environment through public art initiatives. This fund is supported by commercial construction projects exceeding $250,000, where developers contribute either 2% of the project cost for on-site public art or 1% directly to the Public Art Fund. The Art & Cultural Commission advises the City Council on public art fund allocations and presents annual recommendations for cultural and artistic goals.

Bandstand Weathervane Project

SITE AND PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The project site is the rooftop of the Bandstand located in Capitola’s Esplanade Park, a central hub for community gatherings, concerts, and events. The Bandstand sits in a high-visibility area near Capitola Beach and serves as a recognizable icon in the community.

Completed Projects What We Love About Capitola This project was a collaboration between the City of Capitola and the Soquel Union Elementary School District. Each tile was painted by a student in the Expanded Learning Program at Soquel Elementary School, Main Street School, Santa Cruz Gardens, and New Brighton Middle School. Seventy-five students contributed to the project, from Transitional Kindergarten through 8th grade, in 2024. Read More
