CZU Lightning Complex Fire Resources

The CZU Lightning Complex Fire is a regional emergency, mostly impacting the Santa Cruz Mountain community of Santa Cruz County. Residents of the City of Capitola are not at risk. We encourage you to stay informed and remain prepared in case of any emergency.

Visitors are asked to stay away from Santa Cruz County, including the City of Capitola, until at least September 1. More than 77,000 people have been evacuated in Santa Cruz County, and we ask that hotels, motels, Air B&B's, and other overnight accomodation be reserved for our community members at this time. A press release outlining this request can be read by clicking here

The scale of the CZU Lightning Complex Fire has caused poor air quality throughout Santa Cruz County. The best public health strategy is to be aware that heavy smoke will be in our future and for people to prepare themselves, their home, their loved ones, and community for smoke events.
