Elections

Capitola Municipal Elections are conducted by the Santa Cruz County Clerk / Elections Office and often consolidated with State and Federal regular elections.

Capitola City Council is composed of five council members, all of whom are directly elected by registered voters who reside in Capitola City Limits. Council Members serve four-year terms, and can only be re-elected once before terming out (Council Members may only serve eight consecutive years). Council elects a mayor and vice mayor annually.

The next election in which Council Members will be elected is November 8, 2022, when three seats will be up for election/re-election. Capitola residents interested in running for office should check the City website and contact the City Clerk begining in June 2022 for more information
