2018 Capitola General Municipal Election

ELECTION RESULTS

The tallying of ballots and final certification of election results for Capitola and all Santa Cruz County jurisdictions is handled by the Santa Cruz County Clerk/Elections. Votes were cast for the candidate for the office of Member of the City Council for full terms of four (4) years as follows:

The City of Capitola held  its General Municipal Election concurrently with the November 6, 2018, statewide election. Three of the five City Council at-large seats were up for election. Terms are for four years, from December 2018 through December 2022.

CITY MEASURES ON THE BALLOT

At its July 26 meeting, the City Council placed three measures for voter approval on the November ballot, which have since been assigned letters:

Measure I - A cannabis business tax
Measure J - An increase in the Transient Occupancy Tax allocating dedicated portions to youth and early childhood programs and to local business groups for marketing and community improvements, and the balance to fund core City functions
Measure K - Changing the city treasurer from an elected to an appointed position

CITIZEN INITIATIVE MEASURE

At its August 9 meeting, the City Council voted to place a citizen initiative, Measure L, on the ballot. See Resolution No. 4124 below. 

ARGUMENTS

The City received arguments in favor of all four ballot measures and an argument against Measure L.  In addition, the ciy attorney provided impartial analyses of Measures I, K, and L. They can be accessed below.

SANTA CRUZ COUNTY REGISTRAR OF VOTERS

The last day to register to vote and appear on poll records is October 22.

The Registrar of Voters is the County Elections Official and the office conducts all Federal, State, County, Municipal, School District, and Special District scheduled and special elections. The ROV Office is also responsible for voter registration, education and outreach; maintenance of registration files; verification of initiatives, referenda and recall petitions; and filing of campaign reports.
