Jewel Box Area Traffic Calming Implementation Hearing Feb. 22

The City of Capitola City Council will hold a public hearing to consider an implementation plan for the project to install diagonal barricades along 47th Avenue as a traffic calming measure.  It is anticipated that the City Council will take action or provide direction to staff. The meeting begins at 7 p.m.

Monterey Bay Community Power Update Feb. 8

Monterey Bay Community Power (MBCP), the new regional partnership between local governments that will soon begin providing clean-source electricity, will present an update and overview at the February 8 Capitola City Council meeting.

MBCP will deliver its customers clean, carbon-free electricity over existing PG&E power lines, and PG&E will continue to maintain the lines and provide customer service as in the past. Service to commercial customers will begin March 1, 2018, and to residential customers on July 1.

Rail Line Right-of-Way Presentations Jan. 11

The regular meeting of the Capitola City Council on January 11, 2018, will include presentations by two organizations sharing their visions of future use of the Santa Cruz County branch rail line right-of-way: the Santa Cruz County Friends of the Rail and Trail and Greenway.

The right-of-way is owned by the Regional Transportation Commission, which is currently studying five scenarios involving different uses on the right-of-way as part of its Unified Corridor Study. The January 11 presentations are informational. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. 

 

Community Invited To Discuss Capitola Mall Redevelopment Jan. 24

Have you wondered about the future of the Capitola Mall, or thought about ways the Mall could be better?  If so, the Mall owners would like to hear from you.

Merlone Geier Partners purchased the Capitola Mall in 2016.  Merlone Geier is a private real estate investment company focused on the acquisition, development, and redevelopment of retail and retail-driven mixed-use properties on the West Coast.

Capitola Branch Library Book Sale

The Friends of the Capitola Branch Library will hold its December big book sale on Saturday, December 9, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.  In time for holiday shopping, it features hundreds of donated books of all genres (fiction, non-fiction, children’s, and more) plus lots of CDs. Books are just $2 for hardbacks and paperbacks for $1. Find the Friends book sale on the porch of the Capitola Branch Library, 2005 Wharf Road in Capitola.

Attendees can also see the current architectural designs and pictures for the new library to be built on the current site.

iSKATE Capitola Dec. 15-Jan. 7

The Capitola Village and Wharf BIA invites locals and visitors to trade flip-flops for ice skates and enjoy a one-of-a-kind experience at Santa Cruz County’s first artificial ice rink. Located in Esplanade Park, in front of the stage and overlooking Capitola Beach and the Monterey Bay, the seaside ice rink will be open to the public December 15, 2017 through January 7, 2018.
