Project Overview
The Capitola Community Center is undergoing a major renovation to modernize the building, improve accessibility, and support a wider range of programming and public use. Located at Jade Street Park, the updated facility will continue to serve as a vital gathering space for classes, meetings, and community events.
Renovations include structural repairs, energy-efficient upgrades, accessibility improvements, and enhancements to outdoor areas adjacent to the building.
Current Status (Updated January 2026)
Construction continues to make steady progress on both the building and outdoor improvements.
Interior drywall and rough mechanical, electrical, and plumbing work are complete, and the project has moved into early interior finishes. Door frames, storefront systems, and window installations are underway as materials arrive.
Exterior work is largely complete, including roofing, flashing, and gutters. Patio concrete, walkways, retaining walls, and drainage improvements continue, with remaining concrete work dependent on weather conditions.
The project remains on track for completion in Spring 2026.

The renovated community center will include:
- ADA-compliant restrooms and entrances
- Upgraded meeting rooms and multipurpose spaces
- New windows, siding, and roofing
- Energy-efficient lighting and systems
- Outdoor improvements including new patios, accessible walkways, and landscaping
Funding
The project is funded through a combination of local and state sources, including:
- Community Development Block Grant (CDBG)
- California Natural Resources Agency Grant
- City General Fund
Community Impact
The building will remain closed for the duration of construction. Recreation programs and public meetings have been relocated or modified during the renovation. Visit capitolarec.gov for current program locations and updates.
