Camp Capitola, is a summer day camp serving youth ages 4-14. It is held at Jade Street Park and uses the outdoor environment and the Capitola Community Center. Camp Capitola offers a variety of activities including outdoor games, sports, arts and crafts, drama productions, and beach mornings. Your child must be 4 years old before the program starts. Our goal is to create a safe and enjoyable youth program experience for all. Capitola Recreation youth programs operate at ratio of 1 staff member to 12 participant. As youth work professionals we understand that from time to time participant’s need a little extra support and staff will maintain the “rule of 3” when behavior coaching or support is necessary. However, if a participant’s behavior or support need requires more attention than the 1:12 ratio allows the family may be advised to explore a more suitable program for the safety of all participants.

Lil Campers: (4-5yrs): Lil' Campers is a summer camp for PK/Kinder-aged kids with fun scaled to age-appropriate activites. Half-day and all-day options are available.  Camper must be potty trained.

Dependiing of what session your child is registered for, some walking field trips may include: half day at the beach, Capitola Aracde and ice cream in the village
Camp Special Activities at Jade St Park may include: Wildmind wild life visit, Fire Dept visit, Police Dept visit

Classic Camp (6-12yrs): Classic Camp Activities: Group Challenges, dodge ball, scavenger hunts, relay races, recreational sports, Art and Craft Projects, Beach Day, movies, walkig field trips and ice cream at the end of every session. Half day and all day options available. Dependiing of what session your child is registered for, some walking field trips may include: Agility Boulders, Giggle-n-wiggles, and Capitola Aracde

Camp Special Activities at Jade St Park may include: Wildmind wild life visit, Fire Dept visit, Police Dept visit

Around Town Camp (11-14yrs): This is only offered 2 times during the summer with limited space. We will be exploring the local attractions around town. Some of the activities for the week may include: Kayaking Elkhorn Slough/Santa Cruz Wharf, hiking and creek walking, exploring tide pools, mini golf, laser tag, and bowling. All day option only

We are offering extended care options, 8-9am & 4:30-5:30pm.

There will be transportation available from Juinor Guards to Camp Capitola and Camp Capitola to Junior Guards. Must regieters ahead of time.

2024 SCHOLARSHIPS:

The Capitola Public Safety & Community Service Foundation are providing a limited amount of scholarships for children who otherwise would not be able to afford the program. If you would like to make a donation to this fund please follow this link and click on Donate Today. https://capitolafoundation.org/

Scholarship applications must be received after registering for the program.  This allows the scholarship committee time to review the applications and award the scholarships as soon as possible.  Applications may be received after the deadline as funds allow. 


2024 CAMP CAPITOLA REGISTRATION INFORMATION

REGISTRATION IS ONLINE ONLY.

Camp is for kids ages 4-14; your child must be 4 years old before the program starts.

  • Registration for Camp Capitola will be online only; there will be no in-person or mail-in registration accepted at the recreation office.  Please register early.
  • Make sure that you go over the following steps to ensure you have an account and the account is working correctly.
  • In preparation for the registration process, you will need to have an online account.
  • To set up an account, or to check the details in your account. If you have never created an online account, please do so now. If you don’t have access to a computer, you can register using a smart phone or there are computers at the libraries or some local coffee shops.
  • If you have an account, make sure your account is up-to-date. If you have trouble accessing it, email us at capitolarecreation@ci.capitola.ca.us.
  • If you know your address will be different this summer than what we have on file, please email us at capitolarecreation@ci.capitola.ca.us to change it for you. The system does not allow you to make that change yourself.
  • Registration will be on a first-come, first-served basis.

*** REFUND POLICY - PLEASE READ BEFORE SIGNING UP ***

The Capitola Recreation Department must arrange staffing, supplies and equipment needs for the entire summer at the beginning of the summer. Refunds thus have a significant impact on the City’s ability to provide camp services. For that reason, we ask that you review and agree to the following policies and statement prior to enrolling a participant in the Camp.

  • For refunds requested two or more weeks before the beginning of a session, the City will provide a full refund, less a $50 fee.
  • For refunds requested within two weeks of the start of a session, the City will provide a refund of 50% of the fees paid.
  • No refunds will be given after the second day of the program.
  • If the session is canceled for a COVID-19 related reason the City will provide a pro-rated refund based on the remaining number of days in the session.
  • If a participant becomes sick or is injured during the session, and the illness or injury precludes the participants continuation in the program, the City will provide a pro-rated refund based on the remaining number of days in the session. You may be required to provide documentation regarding the illness or injury.
  • No refund will be provided if a participant is suspended or removed from the program for disciplinary reasons.

CAMP CAPITOLA JUNIOR LEADER PROGRAM

The Camp Capitola Junior Leader program is a summer opportunity for teens ages 14-17 who are interested in becoming a Camp Leader after high school.

The Junior Leaders program provides leadership and job training while having fun and assisting Camp Leaders with summer program. Junior Leaders can use their summer camp experience to fulfill school and community service requirements, and we provide each Junior Leader with a formal certificate showing these hours upon successful completion of a full session and a letter of recommendation from the Coordinator.

Participants are expected to be committed, punctual, and responsible in the program and to treat this responsibility as a job. We ask that each Junior Leader commits to at least 1 full 2-week session of summer. They are under direct supervision of the Camp Coordinators and Camp Leaders, as well as the Recreation Coordinator. There is a $73 PER SESSION cost for this program.

Jr Leaders Requirements Minimum Qualifications

●  Must be  14-17 year of age
●  Desire and ability to work with campers (4-12yrs) of varying ages and skill levels
●  Works well in a team setting
●  Enthusiasm, patience, and self-control
●  Good character, integrity, and adaptability

General Responsibilities

●  Be a good example to the campers in all areas including rules, clean-up, sportsmanship, character, etc.
●  Participate, with enthusiasm, in any and all camp activities along with the kids.
●  Follow instruction and carry out responsibilities.
●  Assist the leaders in various activities
●  Be involved with the kids during free time activities
●  Encourage participation in activities and help all campers to have fun!
