Yvonne's parents and grandparents are from the province Lucca, in Italy. She earned her B.A. and Teaching Credential at San Francisco State University and went on to earn an M.S. degree in Italian and Linguistics from Georgetown University. She has studied Italian language and culture at Centro Linguistico Italiano Dante Alighieri, Firenze, Italia, and at Universita' italiana per stranieri, Perugia, Italy. She has taught in California, Indiana and more recently, in Alexandria, Virginia, at Northern Virginia Community College, where she initiated and supervised an Italian program for 19 years. She has been a consultant for the American Council on Education, reviewing and evaluating Italian programs at the National Cryptologic School in Baltimore, Maryland, and an editor and translator.
