The City of Capitola is seeking qualifications from an economic consultant with expertise in identified areas to serve as part of the City’s technical team focused on the redevelopment of the Capitola Mall. 

The City is currently processing multiple amendments to CMC Title 17 Zoning Code related to the Capitla Mall, the Cliff Drive Resiliency Project, Multi-family Zoning, and Accessory Dwelling Units.  Please scroll down to learn more. 

Capitola Mall Zoning Code Amendments

On August 22, 2024, the Capitola City Council adopted amendments to the 2023–2031 Housing Element of the City’s General Plan. The Housing Element establishes goals and policies for housing production as required by state law and identifies programs with specific City actions and deadlines.

The City of Capitola understands that obtaining permits for a development project can be challenging and we are committed to helping our customers successfully navigate the permitting process.

The Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) will start work on its Community Pipeline Safety Initiative in Capitola over the next several months.  The Initiative is focused on improving community safety by addressing potential risks to gas transmission pipelines by identifying trees, bushes, and structures which could damage underground pipelines and/or obstruct access to first responders during an emergency.  The Initiative is underway throughout the PG&E service area.

What is a Vacation Rental?

A vacation rental is a residential home or portion of a home that is rented for less than 30 days (Section 17.160.020). They are also referred to as "short-term rentals" or "transient rental uses".
