New Capitola Branch Library

The City of Capitola is planning to construct a new branch library by June 2018.  Conceptual renderings have been developed by Anderson-Brule Architects to offer a glimpse of what a new library could look like if a 2016 regional tax measure is passed to improve library services throughout Santa Cruz County.

Rispin Park Project

In July 2014, the City of Capitola was awarded with a $383,000 grant from the State of California Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) to make improvements to the Rispin property.  The grant monies, combined with City funds, will be used to restore the Rispin Mansion grounds to create an approximately .86-acre community park that provides primarily passive recreational opportunities with a focus on the site’s cultural, historical, and open space resources.  The project has been designed to be consistent with the historic architectural style of the mansion and to promote pub

Multi-family properties in the Single-Family Zone

MULTI-FAMILY HOMES IN THE SINGLE-FAMILY ZONE

Currently, there are 52 multi-family homes located in the single family (R-1) zone. A multi-family home is defined as a building with 3 or more dwelling units.  Many of Capitola’s neighborhoods changed from multi-family to single-family zones between 1950 and 1984 (See Figure 1). Once the zone changed from multi-family to single family; the multi-family homes became non-conforming.

Climate Action Plan

The City Council adopted Capitola's first Climate Action Plan (CAP) on October 22, 2015.  The CAP identifies strategies and actions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) from City government operations and community activities to support the State of California’s efforts to mitigate the effects of climate change.
