Code Enforcement

The City of Capitola recognizes the importance of preserving a high quality of life throughout the community and has adopted local codes and ordinances to govern the proper use and maintenance of private properties.

The Community Development Department is responsible for administering the City’s code enforcement program.  The Building Division ensures compliance with life-safety standards and building codes.  The Planning Division oversees compliance with the City’s Zoning Code.  The objectives of the Code Enforcement program are to:

  • Promote public health, safety and welfare;
  • Enhance the quality of life in our neighborhoods;
  • Protect property owner's investments;
  • Cooperatively work with residents to correct code violations in a timely manner;
  • Educate residents.

To report a possible code violation, please complete and submit a code complaint form or contact the Community Development Department at 831-475-7300.  Although the City will maintain the confidentiality of persons filing code complaints, the City does not accept anonymous complaints.
